Optical Microscopy
Example 4
This is a 16-bit, optical microscope image of a diatom photographed in phase contrast. The image is a stack of 15 images to extend the depth of field; however, as a result, the image has an obscuring haze that hides the finer details in the frustule. To remove this haze and provide heightened contrast, Lucis was employed and the variable extent that contrast can be adjusted allows different parts of the diatom shell to be emphasized and revealed in greater contrast.
At one setting the lines which make up the shell's structure are most easily visualized while at other settings the fine pores within the shell can be emphasized.
The Lucis Pro UI is shown with any altered controls highlighted in red.
