1/08/09: "The Lucis Pro software is brilliant and creatively satisfying. Delicious. I love working with it. The best thing about it is that I know what I can do with it before I even get home to my digital darkroom. In the case of this skating image, I didn't feel I had great possibilities when I looked in on the scene, at least as far as the original shot went. But, I was thinking ahead and I knew what Lucis could bring to the image. It was a rather dull and non-dimensional scene and the texture from Lucis brought the whole scene to life. 9/25/08: "I have LucisArt 2, Lucis Pro 5 and now Lucis Pro 6.  I've only had it  since Tuesday, but I'm very impressed with its simplicity, processing speed (on a dual quad MacPro) and its flexibility. I would most  certainly welcome a preset patch.  A minor annoyance is the need to  resize the UI window each time the filter is opened.  I use a 30"  display and have plenty of room to show a fairly large UI window, but the filter defaults to a very small one each time it's opened.  Next time you're playing with the program code, consider having the UI window open in the size when the filter was previously applied." -- Ron Kaplan, Portland OR Lucis Pro 6.0 image to the left, copyright 2008 Ron Kaplan.

8/27/09: "At first I was tentative about results, until I found the right images.  Then I was progressively amazed and astounded by the absolutely jaw-dropping results.  I have been using LP6 on my fine art portfolio, and find it produces astounding results on about 10 - 20% of them.  On another third or so of my images, it gives definite, but subtle, improvements. Photography friends have asked me to describe what it does.  Since they are Lightroom oriented, I tell them it's "clarity" on massive steroids, with a whole new kind of apparent sharpening thrown in, plus some dynamic range improvements (more detail in highlights and shadows). One thing I don't like about LP6 is how it deals with out of focus backgrounds.  It adds quite a bit of contrast to them, bringing them "forward" whereas I want them to have less contrast and stay "back".  Having read your manual, I understand that this is a natural consequence of your algorithm.  My solution is to put the LP6 processed layer on-top of the unprocessed layer and clear the background on the LP6 layer.  The selection tools in CS3 make this easy to do.  This is also my solution to the shadow artifacts problem you discuss, which occurs when high contrast edges are processed in some images.
