Use Lucis Pro to add subtle effects to your image

Create an image where you enhance the detail just a little.

Create a very detailed image, but mix in a large percentage of the original image.

Create an image where you smooth the detail just a little.

Create a very smoothed image, but mix in a large percentage of the original image.

Create an image where the intensity is correct but there are undesirable color shifts, and then remove the color shifts.

Important: These examples have been made a little more dramatic because otherwise the effect would be too subtle to view on the Internet. However you can make these effects as subtle as you like.

Create an image where you enhance the detail just a little.

IMPORTANT:
Typically when using Lucis Pro to enhance detail you will see some areas of the image that have color shifts. So typically the Assign Original Image Color Slider is set to 100% to eliminate these color shifts.

Lucis Image created by 1) selecting Split Channel Mode, 2) moving the Enhance Detail Slider to 197 for each RGB Channel and 3) then getting rid of the color shifts by setting the Assign Original Image Color Slider to 100%. Only image detail is shown because the differences were too small to see in the full image.

Lucis Image created by first creating a very detailed image (Enhanced Detail Slider set to 19) then using the Mix With Original Image Slider to mix in 80% of the original image. I liked the color shifts so I did not use the Assign Original Image Color Slider.

Note that this type of Lucis processing brings out any freckles or discolorations in the skin. In this image I like the effect but for most images you would have to fix the skin. This image was interesting because when I enhanced the image detail it created a lot of noise in each channel. So the best image was created by smoothing each RGB Channel.

Create an image where you smooth the detail just a little.

Lucis Image created by 1) selecting Split Channel Mode, 2) setting the Smooth Detail Slider to 15 for each RGB Channel, and 3) using the Assign Original Image Color Slider to assign 100% of the original image’s color to the Lucis image. Only image detail is shown because the differences were too small to see in the full image.

Lucis Image created by 1) selecting Split channel Mode, 2) smoothing each RGB Channel to a slightly different value. (setting the Smooth Detail Slider to 11 for the Red Channel, to 25 for the Green Channel and to 15 for the Blue Channel), 3) enhancing each RGB Channel to a slightly different value (setting the Enhance Detail Slider to 201 for the Red Channel, to 199 for the Green Channel and to221 for the Blue Channel), and 4) using the Assign Original Image Color Slider to assign 100% of the original image’s color to the Lucis image. Enhancing each RGB Channel brightened the image and I was able to eliminate the color shifts by using the Assign Original Image Color Slider.

When I looked at the grayscale intensity information in each RGB channel I saw that the Blue Channel was very dark. Enhancing the detail in the Blue Channel brightened the image and I was able to eliminate the color shifts by using the Assign Original Image Color Slider.

I liked the color shifts so I did not use the Assign Original Image Color Slider.

Create a very smoothed image, but mix in a large percentage of the original image.

IMPORTANT: Since you are drastically increasing the value of the Smooth Detail Slider you must always set the Processing Scan Lines to at least 40 to avoid the creation of any radial artifacts from the Lucis processing. Also since drastically increasing the value of the Smooth Detail Slider creates dramatic color shifts you will usually prefer to set the Assign Original Image Color Slider to 100%.

NOTE: Using this methodology of Lucis processing did not work well with the image of the little girl with the white dog. So there is not Lucis processed example in this section. Lucis processing is very image-specific so not all approaches will work with every image.

Create an image where the intensity is correct but there are undesirable color shifts, and then remove the color shifts.

Using Split Channel Mode you can create an image where the intensity of the image looks correct although the colors are not. Then use the Assign Original Image Color Slider to get rid of the color shifts and give you the image you want. The image below is the Lucis-processed image without fixing the colors. Then the image below that is the Lucis image where the Assign Original Image Color Slider was moved to 100% to remove the undesirable color shifts.

Lucis Image without color correction created by 1) selecting Split Channel Mode, 2) leaving the Smooth Detail Slider at 13 and setting the Enhance Detail Slider to 161 for the Red Channel, 3) leaving the Smooth Detail Slider at 5 and setting the Enhance Detail Slider to 167 for the Green Channel, 2) setting the Smooth Detail Slider to 17 and setting the Enhance Detail Slider to 199 for the Blue Channel. (The Blue Channel had some noise that I removed using the Smooth Detail Slider.) The color shifts are not attractive.
