Repair Overexposed Images

Lucis Pro allows you to quickly and easily repair overexposed images. Just move the Enhance Detail slider to the left until the level of detail is what you want. For most images you also have to move the Assign Original Image Color slider to 100% Original in order to remove color shifts.

Lucis Pro pulls out detail throughout the image. However if the image is overexposed frequently the Lucis Pro image will still be too bright. Darkening the image using level adjust gives the image the proper exposure. The combination of Lucis Pro with Level adjust produces far superior results when compared to using level adjust alone.

Below are three examples. The methodology used in each case is very similar.

Examples:

girl

Original Image: This image is overexposed and has areas where the image is completely blown out. Lucis Pro can only enhance detail if there are variations in the pixels to enhance. It is easy to see where the image has no detail. Just move the Enhance Detail slider to a very low number (3 to 11) and the areas with no differences in contrast are easily seen.

Better Image: This image was created just using Lucis Pro. Each RGB channel was enhanced separately using Split Channel mode. This resulted in an image with slightly better contrasts and detail than the best image I could create using the Lucis Pro Single Channel mode. This is because the intensity information in each RGB was enhanced to balance the contrast in the image. Using Split Channel mode resulted in drastic color shifts, but these color shifts were removed using the Assign Original Image Color slider. The bottom of her nose was a bit too dark so I used the history brush tool to remove part of the Lucis processing in that small area.

Best Image: This image was created by taking the Better Image and just applying level adjust.

Original Image: This image is overexposed and has large areas where the image is completely blown out- her hair, her shoulder and the top right corner of the image. Lucis Pro can only enhance detail if there are variations in the pixels to enhance. It is easy to see where the image has no detail. Just move the Enhance Detail slider to a very low number (3 to 11) and the areas with no differences in contrast are easily seen.

Best Image: This image was created by taking the Better Image and 1) using the history brush to remove some of the detail in her forearm and to lighten the shadow on her nose and 2) using the clone stamp to add texture in her hair and color to the top right of the image.
